CodeBuddy Code performs best with a properly configured terminal. Follow the guidelines below to optimize your experience.
Themes and Appearance
CodeBuddy Code cannot control your terminal theme, which is handled by your terminal application. You can match the CodeBuddy Code theme to your terminal theme at any time by using the /config command.
To further customize the CodeBuddy Code interface itself, you can configure a custom status line to display contextual information at the bottom of the terminal, such as the current model, working directory, or git branch. Line Break Input
There are several ways to enter a line break in CodeBuddy Code:
Ctrl+J: A cross-platform shortcut. Press Ctrl+J to insert a line break when entering multiple lines.
Quick escape: Type \\\\ and press Enter to create a line break.
Shift+Enter: Configure automatically through the /terminal-setup command (recommended).
Configuring Shift+Enter (Recommended):
Run the /terminal-setup command in CodeBuddy Code to automatically configure the Shift+Enter shortcut.
Supported terminals:
macOS: iTerm2, Terminal.app

Configuring Option+Enter (VS Code, iTerm2, or macOS Terminal.app):
For Mac Terminal.app:
1. Open Settings > Profiles > Keyboard.
2. Select "Use Option as Meta key".
For iTerm2 and VS Code terminal:
1. Open Settings > Profiles > Keys.
2. Under "General", set the Left/Right Option key to "Esc+".
Notification Settings
Configure notifications properly so you never miss a beat when CodeBuddy completes a task:
iTerm2 System Notifications
Configure notifications for iTerm 2 when tasks complete:
1. Open iTerm 2 preferences.
2. Navigate to Profiles > Terminal.
3. Enable Silence bell and Filter Alerts > "Send escape sequence-generated alerts".
4. Set your preferred notification delay.
Note:
These notification features are only available in iTerm 2 and are not available in the default macOS terminal.
Custom Notification Hook
For advanced notification handling, you can create a notification Hook to run your own logic. Handling Large Volumes of Input
When processing large amounts of code or long instructions:
Avoid pasting directly: CodeBuddy Code may not handle very long pasted content well.
Use a file-based workflow: write content to a file and ask CodeBuddy to read it.
Note the limitations of VS Code: The VS Code terminal is particularly prone to truncating long pasted content.
Vim Mode
CodeBuddy Code supports some Vim keyboard shortcuts, which can be enabled by using the /vim command or configured through /config.
The supported feature subset includes:
Mode switching: Esc (switch to NORMAL mode), i/I, a/A, o/O (switch to INSERT mode)
Navigation: h/j/k/l, w/e/b, 0/$/^, gg/G
Editing: x, dw/de/db/dd/D, cw/ce/cb/cc/C, . (repeat)
