This document guides you through creating, editing, versioning, and lifecycle governance of Skills on the Skill management page. A Skill supports a three-state state machine (draft/online/offline), historical version records, and one-click rollback. It can also be published to SkillHub for all users to browse and associate with Agents, addressing issues such as online Skill updates easily interrupting associated Agents and the inability to trace historical changes.

Feature Overview

A Skill is the atomic capability unit of an Agent, used to describe what the Agent can do. Externally, it corresponds to the AgentSkill object (id/name/description/tags/examples) in the AgentCard of the A2A protocol. Internally, it is a reusable capability configuration record on the AI gateway side. The same Skill can be reused by multiple Agent APIs, and a single modification takes effect synchronously.

Terminology

Term
Definition
Draft
Draft state, visible only to the creator, cannot be published to Hub, and cannot be associated with Agents.
Online.
Published state, can be associated with Agents; whether it is displayed in SkillHub is determined by the publishing status.
Offline.
Offline state, cannot be associated with new Agents; existing associated Agents are retained but a warning is displayed.
Current Version
Version corresponding to the Skill master record, that is, the latest effective content.
Historical Versions
Only one entry is retained, which is the snapshot of the previous version before the current version changes.

Prerequisites

An AI Gateway instance has been created, and its status is Running.
To mount a Skill to an Agent and expose it through the A2A protocol, the gateway data plane version must be 3.9.6 or later.
To create a Skill from a ZIP package, prepare in advance a compressed package that contains SKILL.md.

Scenario 1: Skill Management

Creating a Skill

1. Log in to the AI Gateway console.
2. In the left sidebar, choose Instance List, and click the target AI Gateway instance ID to go to the instance details page.
3. Click Skill Management in the left sidebar, and then click Create Skill.
4. Configure the basic information in the Create Skill dialog box:
Parameter Name
Required
Value Range/Default Value
Description
Skill name
Yes
Up to 64 characters
Display name, for example, "TAPD-Test".
Description
Yes
Up to 255 characters
Describes the capability in one sentence. Written to AgentCard skills[].description and visible externally.
Tags
Yes
Up to 5 tags, each up to 20 characters
Must be unique. Written to AgentCard skills[].tags. Supports adding by pressing Enter, comma, or space. Displayed as chips. Click × to delete.
Examples
No
Up to 10 entries, each up to 512 characters

5. (Optional) Upload a ZIP package in the Skill File area:
Parameter Name
Required
Value Range
Description
Skill file (.zip)
No
Only the .zip format is supported.
Supports drag-and-drop or click-to-upload. After upload, the system automatically parses the metadata (name/description/tag) in SKILL.md and fills it back into the fields above. The system only fills in empty fields and does not overwrite existing content.
6. Click Confirm Creation, and the newly created Skill appears in the list.

Viewing Skill Details

1. In the Skill Management list, click Details to the left of the target Skill to go to the details page.
2. The details page contains the following tabs:
Sheet
Content
Basic Information
Skill ID, name, description, Tags, Examples, current version, status, creator, creation/update time, version history

Skill State Transitions

1. Go to "Skill Management" and select the target Skill.
2. Supported state transitions:
Operation
Prerequisite
Result
Go online.
Currently in draft or offline state.
Online.
Go offline.
Currently online and not bound to any Agent.
Offline. If the skill has been published to Hub, the publication is automatically canceled in the same operation.
Publish to Hub
Currently online.
After publishing, the Skill will be visible to all users and can be browsed and downloaded in SkillHub.
Remove from Hub
Currently online and published to Skillhub.
After removal, the Skill is visible only to you, and other users cannot see it in SkillHub.

Scenario 2: Version Management and Rollback

1. Each time you edit and save the name/tag/example/description of an online Skill, the original content is automatically archived as a "historical version", and the edited content becomes the new "current version".
2. Go to "Version History" on the Skill details page to view the current version and historical versions (up to 2 entries, with the current version pinned to the top).
Field
Description
Version number.
Format x.y.z or system timestamp. Must not duplicate an existing version.
Creator/Creation Time
Original creator and time of the version snapshot
Current or Not
Indicates whether it is the currently effective version.
3. Click Rollback to swap the current version with the historical version. The historical version immediately becomes the current version and takes effect, while the original current version becomes a historical version. No additional publishing operation is required.
4. When only one version exists (no historical version), the rollback button is unavailable.
Note:
After a Skill's content changes, if the Skill is associated with Agent APIs, the changes are asynchronously synchronized to all associated Agent APIs (completed within approximately 5 minutes). You can view the synchronization status in the synchronization task records, and manually retry if synchronization fails.

Scenario 3: Associating an Agent with a Skill

When creating an Agent service, you can associate Skills with it. The Agent Skill selector displays only Skills in the "Online" state, and publishing to SkillHub is not required.
Prompt when the status of an associated Skill changes:
Skill Current Status
Agent Details Page Display
Online.
Normal
Offline.
Orange warning: "This Skill is offline. It is recommended to replace it."
Deleted
Red warning: "This Skill has been deleted. Please reconfigure it."
Note:
A Skill bound to an Agent cannot be deleted or taken offline. Unbind it first.
Only Skills in the "Online" state can be downloaded. Draft/offline Skills cannot be downloaded.
